Our Vision

JAM Sonor Brussels is a joint effort of VOLTA and JAM Hotels. It is housed in the physical and operational infrastructures of JAM and is programmed and activated by VOLTA. This building, fully dedicated to music, offers spaces for development and performance to emerging musicians.

This project represents a new collaboration between two entities of different character: A commercial business and a non-profit organisation.

The project is based on three core principles: accessibility, representation and local anchoring.

Accessibility

JAM Sonor is founded on the belief that music has the ability to bring people together and create connections across backgrounds and communities.

Music is a form of self-expression, both for individuals and communities.

By keeping practical barriers to participation low, JAM Sonor aims to create a space where as many people as possible can engage, discover and contribute to music.

Culture should be accessible to everyone, regardless of physical ability or mobility needs. The team continuously works to adapt the space and its practices to the needs of its audiences, reducing barriers and creating a welcoming environment for all.

Representation

JAM Sonor Brussels is a platform of representation for emerging professional artists: musicians, designers, photographers and visual artists.

Representation is also a core principle of JAM Sonor Brussels.

Through its programme, JAM Sonor Brussels aims to showcase the richness and diversity of the city’s music scene, while creating opportunities for new artistic voices to develop.

JAM Sonor embraces artistic innovation and experimentation in all its forms, from established practices to new and unexplored approaches.

Local Anchoring

JAM Sonor Brussels is a project rooted in its surrounding: in its neighbourhood and its city. It wants to develop deep local ties and become a part of the Molenbeek area and the city as a whole, inviting to its inhabitants.

Drink suppliers were consciously chosen with two criteria in mind: they either produce along or close to the canal, or support culture through their business model. With this the audience at JAM Sonor Brussels thinks, and drinks, locally, supporting a circular economic model.

The partners behind the project
